Rupert Parkes (Photek) is now synonomous with the most cutting-edge break-beat production that the D&B scene has perhaps ever witnessed. After his early releases on Certificate 18 recordings, Parkes began to craft a unique sound that took drum sampling and programming to it’s limits. Photek and Source Direct were invariably mentioned in the same breath; as though their outputs were twinned. In actual fact, Parkes sound was a tornado of Sci-fi breakbeat and retro-Jazz records wheras Source Direct explored far more sinister territory.
Photek’s signing to Virgin’s Science label saw a new level of opportunity to showcase his talent including the soundtrack to the Blade movie and early Playstation game Wipeout 2097.
Photek’s label PP (Photek Productions) has hosted a wealth of talent including Teebee, Special Forces, Digital & Fabio.
